Tim Gunn to Pen New Fashion Book

Tim Gunn accomplishes something very impressive each week on Project Runway and on Tim Gunn's Guide to Style:

He discusses high-end fashion without coming across like a pompous ass.

For that reason, we're excited over the news that the style guru will be releasing a new book next year. It will be titled "Gunn's Golden Rules: Life's Little Instructions to Making It Work." It's the follow up to his 2007 best-seller "Tim Gunn: A Guide to Quality, Taste and Style."

In a recent interview with Fox News, Gunn said:

"There are three key elements to getting your fashion right and they are silhouette, proportion, and fit," Gunn said. "It has nothing to do with a particular label or its textile or its price, it's those three elements.  And it's true for women and it's true for men as well."

His new book will come out in June 2010.

Tim Gunn Urges Prop 8 Vote

America's favorite fashionista, Project Runway consultant Tim Gunn, has joined the growing list of celebrities taking a stand against Proposition 8, the California ballot initiative that would ban same-sex marriage.

Project Runway fans know it's never a good idea to ignore the advice of Tim Gunn. That rule of thumb extends to politics in this situation as well:

Project Runway Season Finale News: Jennifer Lopez Out, Tim Gunn In

Turns out Jennifer Lopez won't be judging the Project Runway season finale after all.

The singer/actress has dropped out due to a foot injury, Heidi Klum announced at Friday's Project Runway fashion show in New York City.

Tim Gunn will fill in as a guest judge instead.

J. Lo, Gunn

As for future guest stars, might we ever see Klum's husband, Seal, on the series?

"Maybe," the gorgeous model said. "I think he has more style than me, that’s for sure. I changed my style after I met him to keep up with him. He’s very fashionable

Tim Gunn Endorses Michelle Obama... Fashion

Which potential first lady does Project Runway judge Tim Gunn think have better style - Michelle Obama or Cindy McCain?

"No contest, Michelle," he said at the Tide and Downy's Fashion Care launch at the Empire Hotel's Pool Deck in NYC Tuesday.

"She epitomizes class and style," he added. "She looks approachable."

But Tim Gunn thinks Cindy McCain needs a makeover.

"Cindy, on the other hand - with her button-down suits and blouses - looks like she's duct-taped," the Project Runway star said.

"Her fashion is a metaphor for her personality," he added.

Tim Gunn Sounds Off on Celebrity Fashion

Project Runway's consultant, Tim Gunn, is sounding off on celebrity fashion, from Sarah Jessica Parker to Madonna and many more.

In an interview with Extra, the style guru was not shy about stating which stars he feels have the best and worst fashion sense.

"I love Sarah Jessica Parker. She's a risk taker," he says. "Sometimes it's not quite right, but when she gets it right, it's a symphony."

Tim Gunn has different thoughts on Madonna: "If you want to dress as if you never got out of bed, Madonna, don't get out of bed."

Tim Gunn Fashion

The Project Runway star admits he is disappointed with the Material Girl's fashion, joking: "She was a fashion icon. I'm blaming Kabbalah."

When it comes to newly divorced Christie Brinkley's courtroom outfits, Gunn has praise for the scorned divorcee, "She knows what will look good and she accepts responsibility for that and owns her look."

So who tops Tim Gunn's best dressed list?

"The person who never disappoints in my view is Angelina Jolie," he says. "She is always occasion appropriate."

Christian Siriano and Tim Gunn: A Fierce Pair!

What a fierce pair!

Tim Gunn Comments on Christian Siriano Victory

The Chicago Tribune recently spoke with Tim Gunn about the victory of Christian Siriano on this season of Project Runway.

Here are excerpts from the interview:

Christian Siriano, Tim Gunn Q: Every time I saw Christian's age next to his name on the screen, I'd remember, "He's only 21!" It's just astounding.
Tim Gunn: "It is astounding. When we had the auditions in New York, it was the last stop on the audition train. We'd already found a ton of great people with maturity and experience. When I saw Christian's paperwork, I turned to the producers and said, ‘Why are we seeing this kid?' And they said the people doing the prescreening saw something in him. And I said, ‘OK.'"

He came in and he had been in the room about 10 seconds, and I said to my fellow judges, ‘This is an old soul. This is not a 21-year-old kid.' The work blew me away. I've spent my life working with young people, working with students. The closest I've ever come to a real prodigy is the Proenza Schouler boys, Jack McCullough and Lazaro Hernandez. But Christian just blows me away."

Q: His work has such vision for someone so young. It has that couture vision.
Gunn: "It's staggering. But that collection on the runway â€" it was wearable. You wouldn't be a shy wallflower, but it was wearable."

Tim Gunn Would Turn Away Britney Spears

In case you haven't heard, Britney Spears is a pretty big mess these days.

So, would Tim Gunn help make her over?

"I would refuse," he recently told People magazine "There is no amount of money and I'll tell you why: I can't want you to succeed more than you do. And it's obvious that she doesn't want to succeed. I think of her right now as being in exile from the human race and she needs major, major help…

There was a time that we were all marginally amused by it and then it just became a repugnant horror show. No, I wouldn't even be remotely interested in [making her over]."

Gunn added that he feels "deeply sorry" for Spears, but asked: "Who would trust her with children? I hate to say that â€" the whole notion of separating children from their mother â€" but she is a basket case!"

According to the Project Runway mentor, a different Hollywood mother has the best style:

"I'm so tired of saying Angelina Jolie, but she never disappoints. She's always occasion appropriate, whether she's picking up the kids somewhere or walking on the sidewalk on Rodeo Drive, on the red carpet or at a premiere, she doesn't look like she's trying too hard."

Tim Gunn and Heidi Klum Comment on Project Runway

With the season four premiere of Project Runway set for November 14, Tim Gunn and Heidi Klum recently talked about the success of their reality show on a conference call with reporters.

So, why has the show been such a hit over the years?

"I think people truly love talented people. They make something with their passion, with their love, and with their hands," Klum said. "People love to watch talented people at work and watch what they can do. It's as simple as that."

Project Runway has been nominated for seven Emmy Awards over the last two years, while also winning the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Reality Program this year.

The show has been criticized for allowing contestants with bigger personalities to advance over people with more design talent. However, Klum and Gunn each took that criticism personally.

"That's preposterous! A big part of the audition process is narrowing it down to 120 semi-finalists and any one of them could win this. The talent is there and the personalities just become an aspect of it," Gunn said.

Klum agreed.

"Anyone who has watched the show and is a fan of the show would agree with us. If you're not a designer and you don't know what you're doing, you won't even make it on."
