Reality TV Recaps: The Paper, Flavor of Love

We've already summarized last night's Dancing with the Stars and The Bachelor episodes in full. Scroll down the site to read through those guides.

Meanwhile, here are two more reality TV episode guides from last night. A pair of contrasting shows were on the air...

The Paper: The series premiere introduced four juniors all aspiring to be editor-in-chief. Amanda the Copy Editor is a ruthless pursuer of power, the kind of person who thinks she knows better than everyone else. Alex, the Sports Editor, is far more reasonable, though coming from the sports world, he is likely stuck in that wheelhouse... -- BuddyTV

Flavor of Love: As this episode begins, Flavor Flav is lamenting the realization that, sooner or later, he will have to dump one of the twins. Meanwhile, Prototype is nervous about Flavor Flav's reckless drinking (meaning she's not long for this show) and Seezinz, for reasons untold, says she is withdrawing herself from the next challenge... The Paper: A Scathing Critique

Amanda, The Paper The Paper premieres on MTV tonight.

According to respected industry publication, Variety, the network squanders a golden opportunity to actually illustrate what newspapers do; instead using Cypress Bay High's school paper, The Circuit, as the backdrop for an over-produced reality-based teen soap.

Here's what else the trade's review had to say about The Paper:

The premiere is less a window into the lives of aspiring journalists than Election with real kids, a handful of which vie for the editor-in-chief title. Tears ensue, but not much else that resembles a newspaper, except of course that the featured copy editor is an irritating nerd. (Wow, did that get by the desk?)

Amanda (pictured), the bespectacled said copy editor, is the arbitrarily designated narrator of the proceedings at this Florida school, though in doing so she says stilted things such as: "Procrastination is a foe that I have not met yet."

If that line wasn't written for her, she might have wanted to delay coming up with it.

Coming to MTV: The Paper

Premiering on Monday, April 14, can MTV's The Paper do for high school newspaper what Laguna Beach The Hills have done for, well, high school hotties?

The goal of the new reality series, of course, is to focus on supposedly real high school student doing real high school things: homework, going to class, hanging out after school, working part-time jobs and, as the title suggests, working for the school paper.

The Paper Cast

The show centers around the busy high school newspaper staff at Cypress Bay High School in Weston, Florida; it especially centers around four students vying for the position of Editor-in-Chief of newspaper "The Circuit."

We'd actually love to see reality TV become a bit more, you know, real. But why do we have a feeling The Paper will simply lead to one of its stars appearing in a sex tape in a couple years?
