Shear Genius Preview: Answering the Wedding Bells

A Hair-DON'T Teamwork is put to the test on Bravo's Shear Genius tonight.

The remaining six stylists are divided into teams to complete in two strenuous challenges, as they hit up a local Los Angeles shopping mall for the shortcut challenge and solicit shoppers to become their newest clients.

In the elimination challenge, the stylists are under time constraints to create wedding day hairstyles for a bride, her mother and her maid of honor. Will it be "here comes the bride" or "here comes bridezilla," when the wedding day do's are done?

Additionally, Bravo announced the Shear Genius Reunion: Watch What Happens Special airing on Wednesday, May 23 at 11 PM ET/PT, hosted by Bravo's Senior Vice President of Programming Production, Andy Cohen.

Viewers will get behind-the-scenes scoop, see reactions to the show and relive the drama as Jaclyn Smith, Sally Hershberger, Michael Carl and the 12 stylists come together once again.

This week's episode welcomes legendary Jose Eber, hairstylist to some of the most famous heads in Hollywood, and renowned celebrity bridal expert Mindy Weiss as guest judges. Last week, Ken Paves graced the set.

Shear Genius Episode Guide is Live

Ken Paves is a busy man.

The stylist to the stars is by the side of Jessica Simpson pretty much every night - and we can only imagine the restless evenings in bed he spends thinking about Eva Longoria's hair for her upcoming wedding.

How Do I Look?

Nevertheless, Paves stopped by Shear Genius last night to judge the remaining contestants. We wonder what he talked about with host Jaclyn Smith when the cameras weren't rolling.

But you can wonder no more about what took place on the show itself. Just go read out Shear Genius episode guide now.

Ken Paves to Guest Judge on Shear Genius

First, Vanessa Williams.

Tonight, Ken Paves.

Ken Paves The celebrity hair stylist, along with some dude named Christophe, will be a guest judge on Shear Genius tonight. Paves is known for taking care of some of the most famous locks in Hollywood, such as those of Jessica Simpson and Eva Longoria.

"Shear Genius helps all of us remember why we wanted to be hairdressers. I believe hairstyling is like any other art, subject to intention and interpretation," said Paves. "I was impressed by the sense of individuality and dedication that each stylist displayed."

Jaclyn Smith and Sally Hershberger preside on the short-cut challenge where the stylists must create a sexy hairstyle for the everyday man in need of a makeover. Things get even hotter in the elimination challenge when the stylists' skills are put to the test, tasked with recreating hairstyles from distinctive eras such as Medieval, Victorian, 20's, 40's, 60's and 80's.

I'm a Hair God: Shear Genius Episode Guide is Live

At Reality TV Scoop, we are from hair gods. In fact, many on our staff can go days without brushing our locks at all.

But last night's episode of Shear Genius was all about being a hair deity.

Former beauty queen and current co-star of Ugly Betty Vanessa Williams joined Sally Hershberger, Michael Carl and Rene Fris as a judge. But who actually got booted from the competition?

Vanessa Williams to Guest Judge on Shear Genius

Vanessa Williams The remaining eight stylists on Shear Genius can only hope that Vanessa Williams does not channel "Wilhelmina" from Ugly Betty when she judges their potentially red-carpet worthy hairstyles tonight.

Tonight at 10PM (ET/PT), the flat irons aren't the only things heating up in the salon, as tension builds when Tabatha confronts Evangelin after she continues to use gardening shears from last week's unconventional tools challenge in the salon.

"Being a surprise judge on Shear Genius was a blast," said Williams. "I think the contestants were surprised by my hair styling knowledge and I really enjoyed being constructive with my opinions from a celebrity point of view. There were stylists there who I would definitely hire to style my hair for an event."

In the short-cut challenge, stylists must create two unique hairstyles that allow models to go from daytime conservative to late-night glamour, with some stylists meeting the challenge head-on and some creating double style trouble.

Then, it's a celebrity hair affair in the elimination challenge when contestants must do a red-carpet "do" for special celebrity guest judge, Williams. She joins Jaclyn Smith, Sally Hershberger and Allure's Editor-in-chief Linda Wells on the judging panel, to decide which style is the most camera-ready.

Jaclyn Smith Blogs About Latest Shear Genius Episode

Below, though, what better source to hear about the show from than its host, Jaclyn Smith? She wrote the following blog on the Bravo official website:

What a wonderful opportunity the contestants were given to learn from one of the greats -- and to learn her signature style, no less. I was puzzled that Lacey decided to do her own take on the "Sally shag." Her cut was nice but it didn't even resemble the shag. You can make it your own after you really know how to do it.

After doing their own shag, I think the stylists realized that it really is a precision cut. You have to know where to slice in because that's what gives it the modern edge. Tyson did great, he really got it. Sally was right when she said that people would pay $600 for that cut. And she should know!

Shear Geniuses The Long to Short challenge was my personal favorite because of the unconventional tools. All the stylists were brilliant. It's hard enough to do a great cut with good scissors, nevermind garden shears and box cutters. I had a lot of favorites in this one. Evangelin was great; it was so daring of her to pick the hedge clippers. I was in awe â€" I wouldn't want anyone to touch my hair with those.

I applaud her because she wanted to take the most challenging tool. They all stayed cool under the pressure of using unconventional tools. I would have panicked having to put hedge clippers to someone's head. Theodore was one of my favorites -- so I hated to see him go. He is extremely talented and has a bright future ahead of him. I think all good things about Theodore; he's on his way. It is interesting watching the challenges.

They are sort of like a marathon; it really takes you inside the moment. You are watching the stylists make decisions and act on them and sometimes they lose out at something that they are great at because they don't deal with the pressure or they don't handle time well. But that's life; there is always unexpected terrain to go over.
