Lauren Conrad, Reality TV Stars Try to Build Brands

Lauren Conrad is famous for being on reality TV.

But what The Hills star and so many other quasi-celebrities of her ilk really want is to run her very own merchandising empire.

The Hills' cameras have captured LC as a fashion intern and club-goer. Now, in an effort to translate her fame into a real fashion career, she and her father have assembled a team of Hollywood-industry advisers and signed several deals.

The process isn't always smooth, though, as MTV won't promote her enterprises on air, and Lauren Conrad, herself determined to assert her fashion vision, sometimes ignores the suggestions of her more seasoned advisers.

"I'm sure a lot of people don't take me seriously," she says.

Many celebrities are trying to emulate the success of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who parlayed roles on a TV sitcom into a multimillion-dollar conglomerate.

Lauren Conrad represents the next generation of branding - reality TV stars famous only for their willingness to let cameras into their private lives.

Last week, Ms. Conrad's nemesis on The Hills, Heidi Montag, announced her own plans to launch a clothing line opposite Lauren's.

And from E! reality show Sunset Tan, tanning-salon owners Devin Haman and Jeff Bozz recently came out with a line of tanning moisturizers.

Lauren Conrad Takes Issue with Celebrity News Headline

With the return of The Hills just a few days away, its beautiful star, Lauren Conrad, is taking issue with Us Weekly and its lead story.

The magazine's article on LC proclaims that Lauren was "betrayed" by both her friend Audrina Patridge and her ex-boyfriend, Brody Jenner.

LC went on her MySpace page to clarify her thoughts ...

"Hey! I just wanted to take a moment to clear something up. I recently did an interview to talk about the show coming back and what everyone had to look forward to. Unfortunately it was turned into yet another "poor me" story. The article itself is a nice one but it follows headlines that, in no way, represent my words or feelings.

Audrina and Lauren

I do not feel betrayed by Audrina or Brody. I love them both and said nothing to contradict this. I understand that headlines sell magazines, but I value my friendships above magazine sales any day. On a more positive note, I got to see some of the first episode yesterday and it looks amazing. I'm sooooooo excited for everyone to see Paris. Best wishes and I hope everyone tunes in Monday."

Lauren Conrad, Lauren Bosworth Love the Chase

Lauren Conrad and Lauren Bosworth appeared on Ryan Seacrest's radio show today and talked about dating. The rest speaks for itself.

"Why don't you like sweet guys?" Ryan Seacrest asked The Hills stars.

"They're not as fun!" Conrad said.

Pal Lauren Bosworth (a.k.a. Lo) agreed.

"Sweet boys can be, like, filler," Lo said.

The 22-year-old Lauren Conrad and the 21-year-old Lauren Bosworth admit that they get "easily bored" and believe dating is all "about the chase."

"You want the game to be played," Conrad said. "You don't want to have a great time and him to call you right after!"

"It's weak to text," Lauren Conrad adds.

American Idol host Seacrest, who said Conrad is "tragic in [the dating] department," asked, "What's with you and falling for these guys?"

LC replied, "I have no idea!"

Lauren Conrad Speaks on Hills "Betrayals"

"I want to say I can always trust my good friends that I've had forever, but some of my oldest friends have betrayed me." - Lauren Conrad

In an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, LC talks about how her ex Brody Jenner went public with a new girlfriend days after she left for Paris.

To make matters worse, best friend Audrina Patridge allegedly buried the hatchet with Conrad's ex-BFF and current rival, Heidi Montag.

"At this point, I have to question everyone that wants a relationship with me, whether it's friendship or a romantic relationship," Lauren said.

"Audrina has to remind me that she's not someone who's going to betray me," the 22-year-old star of The Hills says pointedly.

Lauren Conrad Speaks Out

The Hills' Lauren Conrad was not pleased by a revelation that Brody Jenner has a new girlfriend ... or that Audrina Patridge had a new (old) pal in Heidi Montag.

As for Brody Jenner's rebound, she says, "When you have that type of thing, you always have to question, 'Why wasn't I good enough?'"

"It's disappointing to have to question relationships," she adds.

And to think, she's not even feuding with Spencer Pratt in this article! All this and more will come flooding back to us as The Hills returns on Monday, March 24.

Lauren Conrad Chats Up David Letterman

Lauren Conrad turned up inside the Ed Sullivan Theater on Tuesday, where The Hills star and aspiring fashion designer chatted up David Letterman.

The pair talked about what Lauren Conrad was like as a child.

LC said: "Our house was in Orange County. The back was a huge canyon, and I was a really big tomboy when I was little. I'd always go hiking and I had a rock collection. And I'd come back up and... you get ticks! They're gross!"

Lauren Conrad also revealed that she is taking a computer class at the FIDM with none other than Stephanie Pratt! Drama! David Letterman also referred to the other Pratt - Spencer - as a new, which was a pretty funny moment.

Lauren "Lo" Bosworth Believes Lauren Conrad and Stephen Colletti are Perfect Couple

Lauren Conrad has dated her fair share of guys, but there's one in particular that BFF and roommate Lauren "Lo" Bosworth thinks is perfect for her.

"Honestly, I think Stephen is best for Lauren," Bosworth told Us Weekly.

She was referring, of course, to high school classmate Stephen Colletti.

"It all goes back to friendships. We have all known each other for so long and that really translates to good relationships in the long run," Lo said.

Stephen Colletti and Lauren Conrad dated during their Laguna Beach high school days and were thought to be maybe having a fling again this year.

Conrad stated they have been "just friends" for a long time, however.

She, Lauren Bosworth and Stephen were all seen recently at a hockey game. Friends or not, they sure look cute together. See this photo below ...

Lauren Conrad Presents Lauren Conrad Fashion Line!

The Hills star Lauren Conrad debuted her new fashion line last night at LA Fashion Week. The Lauren Conrad Collection Fall 2008 fashion show was held at Smashbox Studios Tuesday in Culver City, California.

Here's the lovely Lauren Conrad at the event ...

Lauren Conrad Fashion Show

If you were hoping to see LC's fashion show on the upcoming season of The Hills (March 24), don't hold your breath. According to Lauren Conrad, she prefers to keep her reality show away from her designer aspirations.

"I kinda like that it's separate. It's not something that I really want to be part of a reality television show. It's a career I want beyond my 15 minutes," Conrad said.

In case you're wondering, Kristin Cavallari did indeed show up at LC's show - as did BFFs Lauren Bosworth, Audrina Patridge and Whitney Port!

Lauren Conrad, Kristin Cavallari to Bury the Hatchet?

The Hills star Lauren Conrad has extended an olive branch to former Laguna Beach high school rival Kristin Cavallari, reports Life & Style.

"Lauren Conrad invited Kristin to her recent fashion show," says an insider. "And Kristin accepted!" She must be even more desperate for attention than thought!

The Lauren Conrad Collection is having its runway show tonight during Los Angeles Fashion Week. Let's see if Kristin Cavallari shows!

The girls' long-standing, immensely popular feud began three years ago over their Laguna Beach co-star Stephen Colletti, now 22.

Both Kristin Cavallari and Lauren Conrad liked and sort of hooked up with the cutie, who later dated Heroes star Hayden Panettiere.

An Interview with Lauren Conrad

The lovely star of The Hills, Lauren Conrad, recently chatted with USA Today about footwear, friends, her clothing line and her reality TV hit.

Here's the start of interview below ...

USA Today: What are you up to right now?
Lauren Conrad: Eating lunch. I just got back from a hike so I'm supposed to eat.

USA Today: That sounds so normal! To viewers, you're this fashionista who interned at Teen Vogue. What's the most unfabulous part of your day?
Lauren Conrad: We work 11-hour days, so there's nothing glamorous about that. The only thing they don't show is us sitting around being boring. We sit and watch DVDs and do nothing.

LC Picture

USA Today: Do you think of yourself as a style icon?
Lauren Conrad: Not really. I like clothes and I like dressing fun and taking chances, but I don't consider myself an icon.

USA Today: What's your biggest fashion splurge?
Lauren Conrad: Shoes.

USA Today: How many pairs do you have?
Lauren Conrad: I have no idea. Awhile ago, and I was around 60. I don't know. My favorites are Marc Jacobs and Moschino. I like having fun with shoes.

USA Today: Now, to The Hills. Is Laguna Beach baddie Kristin Cavallari going to be on the show in the future?
Lauren Conrad: No. Not that I know of.

USA Today: What can viewers expect?
Lauren Conrad: I can't tell you that much. We've been on a break. It was really nice to not have cameras around. But I do miss the crew.

Lauren Conrad Talks About The Hills, Clothing Line

Lauren Conrad dropped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show Monday to talk about her reality TV hit The Hills, which returns March 24, as well as moving into her new house and the launch of her clothing line. Some excerpts ...

On moving in: "[MTV] filmed us moving in. There were three girls (LC, Lo and Audrina). We had a lot of stuff. It was raining the whole weekend. We had like 15 crew members with cameras. It was madness... We thought the house was haunted. It was built in 1922â€"it was an old house. We felt it was kinda creepy. We were probably freaking ourselves out but we were convinced it was haunted."

The Hills Girls

On the popularity of The Hills: "I usually ask people when I meet them, what specifically they like about it. Mostly what I hear is that it's very relatable. The point of the show is that it doesn't matter who you are or what your situation is, everyone goes through the same things."

On her new clothing line: "It's what I always wanted to do. Growing up, I always wanted to be a fashion designer. I've been going to school for product development for about two years, and I finally launched the clothing line in stores this month!"

On Heidi Montag: "There is no relationship ... It's one of the most common things I get asked about ... We were friends, then we weren't, and it was really sad, but we've moved on, and the only time I talk about it is when people ask me."
