Gordon Ramsay: Excited About Hell's Kitchen 4

Gordon Ramsay is counting down the days until Hell's Kitchen Season Four premieres.

"I'm very excited about Season 4, more so than any other year before. When you look at the setup in terms of the level of professionalism, this year we've raised the bar," Ramsay told reporters during a Monday conference call.

Unlike previous editions of the show, Hell's Kitchen's fourth-season cast will be competing for an executive chef position in one of Ramsay's own restaurants: The London West Hollywood.

"Looking for a chef personally is something I've stood by, got very nervous about and more importantly, I'd like to think that we have the most amazing -- I hate that word 'cast' -- I call them chefs," Ramsay said. "Fox wanted to run a show and I run the restaurant, so it's a great team of chefs, more so than any other year."

As for the fourth-season female contestants? The foul-mouthed chef describes them as "amazing."

"I've never seen anything quite like it," he said. "It's quite refreshing, really on the back of a male dominant, chauvinistic stance that kitchens have today, so I was really pleased."

Hell's Kitchen will premiere on April 1.

Prepare for Hell's Kitchen: The Video Game

HellWe have no idea what to say about this reality TV news item. So we'll just report on it as if it's not the least bit unusual or disturbing:

A Hell's Kitchen video game is in the works. It will be produced by interactive entertainment company Ludia and offered across all major platforms, including PC, console and mobile.

"We are thrilled that Granada, a highly respected and successful global media company, is entrusting us with the Hell's Kitche' property," Ludia founder and CEO Alex Thabet said. "The show has millions of viewers, and the game will bring the fun of the kitchen boot camp experience from the TVs to the PCs and consoles of this rapidly growing audience."

The game will feature Gordan Ramsay prominently, of course, and be released around the same time as the fourth season of Hell's Kitchen in the United States, sometime in 2008.

Moreover, the game will feature a recipe book containing several of Ramsay's favorite food concoctions, according to Reality TV Magazine, that players can print out and cook up in the real world.

Top Chef Criticizes Gordon Ramsay, Hell's Kitchen

Top Chef judge and restaurateur Tom Colicchio has a bone to pick with his Hell's Kitchen counterpart Gordon Ramsay over the way Fox's foul-mouthed culinary king treats his aspiring chefs.

Tom Colicchio "I watched five minutes of [Hell's Kitchen] once and turned it off because I can't deal with people screaming at chefs," said Colicchio. "I try to treat the [Top Chef] contestants the way I would treat the cooks in my kitchen - you have to be firm, you have to criticize them, but you do it in a way to build them up, not rip them apart."

Colicchio said he works nights so he's not usually around to watch much TV, and when he does find himself in-front of the television it's usually to watch his favorites.

"It's not [Hell's Kitchen]," he told TV Guide.

Colicchio said he considers his Bravo reality show's third-season cast, which consists mostly of sous chefs or executive chefs, to be "a deeper talent pool" than Top Chef's previous seasons. Nevertheless, he couldn't help but offer some words of wisdom from his decades of experience in the restaurant industry.

"Simple is better than complicated, especially when you're doing things under time constraints," he told TV Guide. "I think too often their minds are racing so quickly that they end up doing more than they can handle. The chefs that are really going to distinguish themselves are the chefs that are going to do something uniquely their own. You want to see someone's own style and personality on the plate."
