Episode Guide

Usually, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. Luckily for us, when it comes to our favorite octogenarian and his three beautiful girlfriends, what happens in Vegas is broadcast on the E! Network on Sunday nights!

Last night, the foursome headed to the Sin City to celebrate Hef’s 81st birthday and the viewers learned that a one-day trip to Vegas takes a LOT of planning. Mansion staff not only helped the three girls pack and label their suitcases, but they also had to pack all of Hef’s clothes AND food, because apparently Hef is so picky it’s easier to prepare and fly food 275 miles instead of just buying it there or ordering in.  We did learn that Hef cannot live without hard boiled eggs, Lipton Soup, and Juicy Fruit gum, all of which traveled with him to Vegas.

Once they arrived in the Sin City, the group went to a Cirque Du Soleil show featuring Beatles music and then went out to party for a pretty typical Vegas night. The next morning started off with Kendra Wilkinson flashing a window washer repeatedly by dancing to no music and pushing her breasts and tush up against a glass wall.  Meanwhile, Hef enjoyed his breakfast the way he likes it, which means sliced banana on the bottom of the bowl instead of on top of the cereal.

After breakfast, the group headed downstairs to greet fans and sign Girls Next Door memorabilia. There, viewers got to meet fans of the show which consisted mainly of women (we were a little surprised) and included a large number of pre-pubescent girls (we were a lot disturbed). One girl in particular, who was probably about ten years old, said her favorite Girl Next Door was Kendra, which makes sense because Kendra’s intelligence levels equal that of a ten-year old.

At this point, we should mention that the fifth main character for this episode had to be Mary.  Mary is an old, haggard looking woman who has an office at the mansion and who seems to manage much of Hef’s personal life. In past episodes she has known who the playmate of the year was before Holly, Bridget and Kendra even had a clue, picked out Valentine’s Day presents for the girls from Hef, and listened to Holly plan her future wedding, her Marie Antoinette themed birthday party, and her debut as a photo editor with the Girls Next Door calendar. Who is Mary?

Or maybe a better question is: Who was Mary? Was she a girlfriend 30 years ago? A playmate? A relative? Did she work for the magazine? Regardless of what she did or does now, it’s important to note that Hef kissed her twice this episode: once on the revolving, vibrating bed in the Playboy Suite in the Palms, and once back at the Mansion on Casablanca night. It’s a beautiful friendship.

After their party in Vegas, everyone returned back to the mansion for the annual Hugh Hefner Casablanca Birthday Bash. The movie came out in 1942, when Hef was 16. This means that Hef has had a Casablanca themed birthday for 65 years, making the phrase “Play it again Sam” so much more poignant. Instead of getting Hef something he would really like or use, the girls got pictures of themselves made for Hef. They also opened the presents themselves while he stood there watching.

The episode closed off with Hef sweetly thanking the girls and toasting: “Here’s to looking at you, and you, and you.”
