So You Think You Can Dance For Two Hours Tonight?

Well, you personally don't have to. But would-be dancing standouts will be trying out en masse for Fox's summer reality TV hit at 8:00 tonight.

Tonight features a two-hour special of So You Think You Can Dance, with another hour-long episode to follow tomorrow at 9:00. Awesome.

As our episode guide to last week's premiere sums up, the New York auditions were both entertaining and ridiculous as the good, bad and ugly showed up for a crack at the big time. Tonight promises more of the same.

We're counting the minutes until host Cat Deeley (photographed below at last week's American Idol finale) welcomes us back in that cute accent of hers. We'll have a comprehensive recap of the night's events up by morning. Enjoy.

So You Think You Can Dance: New York Auditions Episode Guide

Cat Deeley is BackJust like its "big brother," American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance kicked off another season last night with the first of its audition rounds.

The love-hate relationship with this phase is evident throughout. Sometimes, we even question why they air it, or why so much time is spent on the total hacks.

But just the same, it's great to see So You Think You Can Dance, Fox's summer reality TV hit, back in full effect.

Kicking off in New York, the familiar faces are back - Cat Deeley handling hosting duties, Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy at the judges table - and in the season premiere, they had quite a turnout in New York City.

In the end, performers from a variety of disciplines, and with a wide array of abilities, made their debuts last night.

So You Think You Can Dance 3 Set to Premiere

American Idol is over.

Now, it's time to dance, dance, dance!

FOX debuts the third season of its summer competition series So You Think You Can Dance tonight at 8 p.m.

The 90-minute premiere will be followed by a two-hour episode next Wednesday at 8 and Thursday at 9. It will then air Wednesdays and Thursday nights, with various start times.

Cat Deeley returns as host; Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy return as permanent judges; and the winner gets $250,000.

So, You Think You Can Dance?

Cat Deeley Psyched for Season 3 of So You Think You Can Dance

According to Cat Deeley, her FOX reality competition series' upcoming third season isn't much different from last summer's second installment, but that's not a bad thing, is it?

"To be honest, there isn't any major change, it's just back and it's bigger and better, to be honest," Deeley told reporters during a conference call last week to discuss So You Think You Can Dance. "It's one of those things, 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it.'"

0000034309_20060927164747.jpg The American Idol-like search for the country's top dancer will premiere Thursday, May 24 at 8PM ET/PT when viewers will be introduced to potential contestants during the first of two audition episodes. Deeley said the success of So You Think You Can Dance's first two editions paved the way for its third season to feature some undeniable talent.

"The talent that we have seen this time is just amazing. The bar has been raised even higher, because now people understand the show, they understand the concept, and they understand what we are looking for."

Deeley said she feels personalities are just as important as the contestants' dance moves - a fact that couldn't have been more evident than during last summer's second season finale, which pitted swing-dancing Benji Schwimmer, the eventual winner, against graceful modern dancer Travis Wall.

"I think what we are definitely finding this year is people are bringing their personalities to the show a lot sooner," she explained. "Because I think people realized this from watching last season, when it came down to crunch time and it was between Travis and Benji. Travis was a phenomenal dancer and had a great personality, and Benji was a great dancer but had a phenomenal personality. When it comes right down to the wire like that, it was Benji that won."

That analysis must not fit every reality show, however. After all, Jennifer Toof was voted out of Charm School early on - and that vixen has a lots of naked photos personality.

So You Think You Can Dance Schedule Announced

Fox has announced the third-season broadcast schedule for So You Think You Can Dance, the American Idol-like search for the country's top dancer.

So You Think You Can Dance's third season will premiere on Thursday, May 24 at 8 p.m. with an unconventional 85-minute broadcast that will feature coverage of the show's New York City open auditions.

The next week, the auditions will continue with a special Wednesday, May 30 broadcast from 8-10 that will cover the show's L.A. and Chicago auditions and a Thursday, May 31 at 9 p.m. show that will cover Atlanta auditions.

The top two-steppers who catch the judges' attention during the auditions will then be shipped to Las Vegas for the "Las Vegas Round," which is similar to American Idol's "Hollywood Week."

"Las Vegas Round" coverage will air on Wednesday, June 6 and Thursday, June 7 from 9-10 p.m. ET/PT, and end with So You Think You Can Dance 3's Top 20 finalists - 10 males and 10 females - being revealed to viewers.

So You Think You Can Dance
's first performance show of the new campaign will air Wednesday, June 13 from 8-10, after which it will be up to viewers to cast votes for their favorites.

The first live results show - an hour-long broadcast - will then air the following night, Thursday, June 14 at 9 p.m., eliminating a male and a female dancer.

They're Back!

So You Think You Can Dance will then settle into a twice-weekly schedule in which two-hour performance shows will air on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. and one-hour results shows will air on Thursdays at 9 p.m.

Due to an NFL preseason game on Thursday, August 9, the So You Think You Can Dance results show for that week will air on Tuesday, August 14 at 9 p.m. immediately following the one-hour finale of Fox's On the Lot.

So You Think You Can Dance
will air its final performance show - a two-hour broadcast - on Wednesday, August 15 at 8 p.m.

The show's season finale - another expanded two-hour broadcast - will air the following night on Thursday, August 16 beginning at 8.

Fox also announced that American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance executive producer Nigel Lythgoe and choreographer Mary Murphy will both return as permanent judges for the show's third season.

As was the case with last season, So You Think You Can Dance's third judging spot will rotate weekly among the series' choreographers: Dan Karaty, Mia Michaels, Brian Friedman, Wade Robson and Shane Sparks.

Cat Deeley - who took over the So You Think You Can Dance hosting duties from Lauren Sanchez after the series first season - will return as host again in the show's third season.

Auditions Begin For New Season of So You Think You Can Dance

Fresh off a sold-out, cross-country performance tour, So You Think You Can Dance has begun another search for America's favorite dancer.

The auditions kicked off in New York City, with the hit reality TV series preparing to kick off its third season this summer on FOX.

Season 3 is Coming

The hot series from the producers of American Idol and American Bandstand is hosted by Cat Deeley, one of the UK's top television personalities, as well as a correspondent for The Tonight Show and Good Morning America.

Nigel Lythgoe, executive producer of both American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance, will return as producer - and head judge - this summer.

Last summer, with the networks absolutely buried in reality TV show options, So You Think You Can Dance emerged as the surprise #1 program.

In its third campaign, it promises to keep America marching to a different beat, as dancers skilled in everything from the "street" styles of hip-hop, krumping and popping to "the best of ballroom" - salsa, quickstep, jive and more - compete to be named America's favorite.
