We envisioned a teary-eyed wrap-up for Cedric Gardner, the unique but too raw hip-hopper, with dancers sadly giving him hugs and pats on the back while barely hiding the elation that it was Cedric cut from the program, not them.

But Cedric Gardner skated through.

Thanks, inexplicably, to mind-changing judge Mia Michaels, Cedric was given a reprieve after dancing for his life in another crazy solo, leaving Faina Savich (pictured) - who held her own in the foxtrot and ended up dancing last night only because of Ced's own ineptness - heading home instead.

As Nigel Lythgoe said, it all came down to the uniqueness versus experience in their decision to axe Jimmy Arguello, a contemporary dancer, over Cedric. But did the right people go home? And what else stood out on last night's results show?

Last night, it was the second week of So You Think You Can Dance's hot dancing pairs, the original 20 finalists now whittled down to 18, or nine couples.

On the chopping block is Cedric Gardner (pictured) who was a major disappointment to Nigel Lythgoe et al., but more importantly to his partner, Faina, last night.

After he shone last week with his specialty, hip-hop, the So You Think You Can Dance gods responded and dealt him some ballroom.

Ouch. When choreographer Hunter Johnson explained to Cedric that lines in foxtrot are like railroad tracks, it was evident Ced was in over his head. Possibly even in a different station altogether, if you will.

Who else might join Cedric and Faina - who will almost certainly have to dance for their asses tonight - in the bottom three? Who stood out on a night of terrific showings? What sexy youngsters look like they're ready to tear each other's clothes off at any second?

In one of the more entertaining performances from Wednesday's So You Think You Can Dance, Jaimie Goodwin and Hok Konishi get all out in this hip-hop routine set to "Tambourine" by Eve.

Shane Sparks did the choreography and the judges loved it despite Jaimie's more classical, traditional dance training. Hok is seriously bad ass.

As predicted, these two were in the clear and easily sailed into the next round on last night's results show. Check out their performance below:

Let the second-guessing begin.

After dancing for their lives, the first pair to be let go on this third season of So You Think You Can Dance was the "dancing David and Goliath" tango twosome of Ashlee Langas (pictured) and Ricky Palomino.

It was clear that after the previous night, Ashlee Langas' days may be numbered. Then last night, her solo of "Cry Me a River" was big on mime style moves and short on real technique... and possibly panties. But no matter.

Ricky's departure came as more of a shock, especially after Nigel teased us by telling him earlier that he had the potential to be one of the best of this young season.

Yet instead of cutting B-boy Dominic Sandoval, whose limited "tricks" are more apparent with every solo, or Cedric Gardner, who wept openly at the prospect of elimination last night and hasn't proven he can handle a style other than hip-hop, they nixed the versatile Ricky.

With auditions over, our first look at the 20 So You Think You Can Dance finalists came last night as they partnered up were thrust out of their comfort zones and into some challenging choreography.

Here's how it went down, by pair...

Jaimie Goodwin and Hok Konishi
Jaimie, a contemporary dancer, admitted that ballroom and hip-hop were kind of foreign to her. Doing Shane Sparks' hip-hop routine next to Hok Konishi - a youngster who dominated auditions for two years now, and spends a good part of his life upside down, break-dancing like a madman - could not have been easy. But Nigel Lythgoe (and no doubt many viewers) thought Jaimie held her own against the awesome Hok... who, it goes without saying was his usual amazing self.

Anya Garnis and Danny Tidwell
Originally from Russia, Anya had been a pro ballroom dancer for 17 years. She's also hot, as Nigel pointed out during auditions. Her partner, Danny, is the brother of last season's Travis Wall (who happens to be a dead-ringer for Blake Lewis, by the way). Anya and Danny learned the jive from Tony Meredith. Great, surprising pairing of style of dance to song: Avril Lavigne's "Girlfriend." A good performance, and a pair to be reckoned with.

Lacey Schwimmer and Kameron Bink
A swing and ballroom dancer and a professional krumper â€" seems a natural combination, no? Lacey Schwimmer (pictured) is little sis to last season Benji Schwimmer, who won the top prize. I'd like the producers to interview their parents â€" how did they raise such incredible dancers?

Following last week's eliminations on So You Think You Can Dance, let's meet the show's top 20 finalists:

Girls:
Anya Garnis, 25, is a Latin Ballroom dancer from New York, NY. Anya has been living in the U.S. for six years after growing up in Russia. She has been dancing with partner Pasha Kovalev, also a finalist, for nine years.

Jaimie Goodwin, 19, is a Contemporary dancer from Virginia Beach, VA. Jaimie danced in competitions with Season Two contestant Travis before coming onto the show.

Lauren Gottlieb, 18, is a Contemporary/Jazz dancer who currently lives in Sherman Oaks, CA. Lauren is originally from Scottsdale, AZ. After moving to California, she landed a spot dancing with Shakira at the Grammy Awards. She has been dancing since she was 2 years old.

Sabra Johnson, 19, is a Contemporary dancer from Roy, UT, with training in Ballet and Jazz. She hopes to pursue dancing as a professional career.

Ashlee Langas, 19, is a Contemporary/Jazz dancer from Tyler, TX. Ashlee has spent her life dancing in all sorts of settings from dance theaters to high school productions.

Shauna Noland, 18, is a Contemporary dancer from North Hollywood, CA. She has been dancing for 15 years and also has an avid love of singing.

Jessi Peralta, 24, is a Hip-Hop dancer from Valley Village, CA. She has danced in front of President Bill Clinton at the Apollo and has performed at Madison Square Garden.

Faina Savich, 21, is a Latin Ballroom dancer from Brooklyn, NY. Following in her brother Stanislav's footsteps (he was a finalist in Season Two), Faina grew up in Moscow and has been living in the U.S. for six years.

Lacey Schwimmer, 18, is a Swing and International Latin dancer from Redlands, CA. Following in the footsteps of her brother and dance partner, Benji, who won the competition last season, Lacey has her own style which she hopes to showcase this season.

Sara Von Gillern, 23, is a Hip-Hop/B-girl dancer from Ft. Collins, CO. While she started as a journalism major at Colorado College, dancing has always been her main love. She is a dance instructor and was one of 30 people from all over the world selected to be part of the Red Bull: Beat Rider program, which gave her the chance to work with some of the biggest names in the Hip-Hop/Breaking field.

Guys:
Jimmy Arguello, 21, is a Contemporary dancer from Miami, FL. After taking his first dance class in middle school, Jimmy, at first focused on running in track and field, changed directions completely and found his true calling in dance.

Kameron Bink, 20, is a Contemporary/Hip-Hop dancer from Coral Springs, FL. Known for his distinct red-star hair, Kameron brings over 15 years of dance training to the show and hopes the experience will bring him new and exciting opportunities as he pursues a professional dance career.Continue Reading...

So, you think you can be a pirate?

A certain former NFL running back thought he could, but fate may not have agreed with him on last night's Pirate Master. Did Christian Okoye last through the second episode of the season?

Meanwhile, So You Think You Can Dance had to cut its number of contestants from 34 to 20. It seemed as though judge Nigel Lythgoe almost enjoyed doing so.

As Vegas Week kicked off last night on So You Think You Can Dance, it was with more than a little bit of disappointment, as it seemed more was absent than present on this might.

Where the heck were Brandon Norris, Benji Schwimmer's sister Lacey Schwimmer, Ashley Simpson or Phillip Chbeeb? Once again, the editing of the show left a lot to be desired.

For some reason, Olivia Usey was the main focal point, and was built up to fail all night, only to sail through. Why? That's unbeknownst to the Scoop, as it was barely shown.

Yet it was redeemed down the stretch in a big way with Twitch, D'Trix, and Hok, among others, who wowed the judges with routines of put-it-all-out-there, dancing-for-your-life dexterity.

Even Mary Murphy (pictured) was impressed.

Much like the vast majority of dancing aspirants shown on TV last night, the fourth and final auditions episode for the third season of So You Think You Can Dance had a lot going for it.

More was right than wrong, for sure. However, what was wrong was SO BAD that we just can't give the episode a ticket to Vegas right now, thankyouverymuch.

The show rolled through Atlanter â€" as it's spoken in Cat Deeley-eese. Shane Sparks (pictured) returned to join Mary and Nigel in the judges' seats as the show treated us to all of the following and more:

• A kid with scoliosis - and sick moves
• Distasteful Brokeback Mountain jokes
• A competitor named Ashley Simpson
• Lots of Southern accents

At the beginning of this two-hour audition episode of So You Think You Can Dance, the fetching Cat Deeley informs us that the prize money has been upped from $100,000 a year ago to $250,000.

Sucks for you, Benji Schwimmer!

During last night's auditions in Chicago and Los Angeleeeese (as the city is pronounced in Cat Deeley-eese), we were treated to a cameo by reigning champ Benji - and his little sister, who's trying out this year!

But the show was stolen by Hokuto "Hok" Konishi, who's come back to dance this season with a vengeance... and, to Nigel Lythgoe's happiness, the proper work permits. Phew.

Meanwhile, Wade Robson, a top choreographer of the second season, has stepped into the judge's chair alongside Mr. Nigel.

But remember, Wade, that Britney Spears can't be put back on your resume until she delivers more than a crappy 15-minute lip-synching "comeback tour."
