Episode Guide
Nigel brings up a large group of dancers to the stage and tells them they will not be asked to continue on the show.
After that sweeping elimination only 34 dancers remain, but only 20 will continue. It’s time to let 14 go. Here’s how it works. One by one their names will be called to stand before the judges. The judging panel delivers the good or bad news to the lonely dancer.
First one through to the top 20 is Danny Treadwell, and it’s a disputed decision. Mia and Shane both think Danny has a big ego problem that’s going to make them regret their decision.
Ashlee is next up in front of the judges. Mia gives a little downer comment at the top then tells Ashlee she’s through.
Break Dancer Dominic Sandoval is up. Shane Sparks lays on the praise, but says he needs to more versatile especially since he’s through to the top 20.
Cedric Gardner is up next. He’s received a lot of praise from everyone but Nigel, who’s concerned that Cedric can’t pick up any partner styles. There’s enough support behind him to push him though to the top 20.
The acceptances keep rolling through, the waiting room exploding with excitement.
The amazing ballroom couple of Anya and Pasha are both easily into the top 20. They won’t be the only Russian ballroom dancers in the Top 20. A nervous Faina Savich goes in front of the judges and gets the good news, she’s top 20 material.
At this point there are only a few slots left and the waiting room is heating up with anxiety. Kat Deeley is standing ready at her post to either console the rejected or celebrate with the victors. Either way she’s looking storybook beautiful as always. Little sidenote here: at the LA auditions she told me I have certain “sexy disheveled” style, and said this on camera I might add, so I’m not sweating it. I’ll tell you who is though, contestant Lauren Gottlieb. (nice segue eh?) The judges pitch her a ridiculous “you didn’t make it” sounding speech, saying they’re worried about showing favoritism since she worked with choreographer Tyce Diorio last season. But they pull the bluff and tell her she’s in. Lauren loses it, going totally insane.
Next on the chopping block is b-girl Sara, and she’s in! This starts the hot streak, adding dancer after dancer into the top 20. 2 big maybe’s coming up, Lacey “the legacy” Schwimmer and Jessi “I wanna quit my dayjob and dance” Paralto. I know all too well how Jessi feels, minus the dancing part. The judges totally love Jessi and tell her she’s in the top 20. Jessica gets so emotional when arrives in the waiting room she looks like she just got a “no”.
It’s down to the last 2 guys and last 2 girls. First it’s Hawk and Twitch, both competing in the same style.
Now it’s the last 2 girls, Lacey and Christine. They’re totally girling out being all “no, you should get it”, “no you should get it”…blah blah, let’s see who’s getting cut! They’re both in front of the judges looking a little bewildered. Mary gives an unusual deadpan delivery telling Lacey she’s the one going to the top 20. Lacey responds with “Shut the front door” the Mormon equivalent of something I’m not allowed to say either. Nigel adds a little pepper to this dessert with a comment to Lacey “to be honest, you scraped it”.
