Rock the Cradle: Take To The Stage
Original Air Date: 4/3/2008Episode Guide
Rock the Cradle appears to have American Idol-like potential. Not to reach that same, incredible level of success, of course. But singing competitions do find a place in the world of reality TV for sure.
On the debut episode, before each contestant does his/her live performance, we’re shown prerecorded footage with each, along with separate ones with the parents. It's like half Behind The Music.
From there, viewers are treated to the contestants rehearsing with the show’s house band; this is where the true entertainment begins and we learn that just because the parents are talented, doesn’t mean their kids are, too. Of course, the kids think they are the second coming. Ha!
At least Landon Brown, Bobby Brown’s son from his pre-Whitney , actually recognizes fact and admits he has a lot to prove.
To be fair, not everyone totally sucked. Hammer’s daughter has potential, so does Jesse Money. Crosby Loggins’s Elvis Costello cover was okay, too.
Overall, you can't ask for much more from the premiere of Rock the Cradle. We get too feel old by seeing the parents of these contestants in all their no-longer-making-hit-songs glory, while reveling in the attempts of their children to succeed in the business. Good times so far.
