Episode Guide
A crew of people behave as pirates and work on a real ship. They also do challenges as teams and compete for different parts of real pirate treasure once belonging to a guy named Captain Henry Steel.
We liked the little twist where the Black Crew elected a captain, not realizing that he would automatically get 50% of the treasure. The team elected Joe Don, who took his role very seriously and pretty much rubbed everyone the wrong way with his rules and regulations. This was typical Burnett-style mind games where he gives one player more than the others and watches them squirm.
The way that people get "cut adrift" from the show (i.e. voted off), is the captain choses three pirates to be put on trial. The pirates try to convince their fellow crewmates that they should stay on the ship, or the crew can rise up against the captain in a mutiny and set the captain adrift.
This week, crazy-eyes captain Joe Don chose Louie (loveable dock worker), Joy (seasick crew member), and John (scientist/exotic dancer with a creepy persona) for elimination. We were confused as to why John had all the compasses and threatened to take them if he gets voted off. But his little ploy didn't work and he was unanimously voted off.
Overall, this episode was very dragged out. There was only one challenge. Even though we liked the part where the captain got most of the bounty, we thought there was entirely too much time spent on the topic and the crew's reaction. It looks like we're in for more of the same next week.
Plus, we were totally let down that the pirates who got voted off didn't have to walk the plank. Come on!
