Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County (often referred to as simply Laguna Beach) is an American reality show on MTV documenting the lives of teens living in Laguna Beach, a wealthy community located in Orange County, California.During the process of filming the first season, the popular teen-drama The OC had just began airing on TV. To ride the OC's booming popularity, the tagline "The Real Orange County" was added to the show's moniker before airing to MTV viewers on September 28, 2004.
Review
Season 1 of Laguna Beach was filmed by MTV in the style similar to its other reality shows, such as "The Real World" and "Road Rules."According to MTV, cast members were not instructed to be in certain locations and were not filmed by multiple cameras. Season 1 was an extremely successful show for MTV, with outstanding viewer ratings.
Kristin Cavallari and Lauren Conrad emerged as break-through reality show celebrities, garnering media coverage far beyond the Laguna Beach context. Conrad went on to star in a spin-off series, entitled The Hills.
