The Best and Worst of Reality TV

Reality TV fans have spoken.

In an AOL poll that was conducted from July 9-23 and attracted more than 1.3 million votes, viewers tabbed Flavor of Love as the worst of the worst.

34% of respondents voted Flavor of Love as the worst reality show this season. Moreover, 57% of pollsters deemed the series as the one that they'd would least like to be on, while 44% thought the show had the scariest star.

Flavor Flav Photo

Not that any of this bothers Flavor Flav himself. Said the man who's actually set to be married soon:

“I feel good right now that I got my true love.  I wanna be with her forever and ever and ever, man.”

As for the show that was considered the best on reality TV? No shock here. One-third of those asked named American Idol as their favorite.

Do you agree with these selections?

Nigel Lythgoe Bows Out of American Idol

Nigel Lythgoe is off American Idol.

The 59-year-old Brit, who has executive produced the hit reality show for all seven seasons, has just taken himself off the program and will not return.

No replacement for him has been named.

Lythgoe apparently felt it was time for someone else to step in. Friends say he's said privately he is "not passionate about it anymore."

American Idol ratings slipped last season, and the show was getting a little boring, sources close to the executive producer said.

Nigel Lythgoe

Nigel Lythgoe is also said to be working on another joint venture with Simon Fuller, creator American Idol and owner of 19 Records.

Fuller and Lythgoe worked together on Britain's immensely popular Pop Idol, which spawned the U.S. series we know and love.

Lythgoe wants to spend his time on So You Think You Can Dance, the smash summer series now in its fourth season, which he created, produces and serves as a regular judge on.

Meet an American Idol Trio

Kady Malloy and Alaina Whitaker may not be headed for singles success - such has been found for past American Idol finalists such as Carrie Underwood - but these artists aren't giving up on their dreams.

The pair has teamed with Alaina's sister Brittney to form Whitaker Malloy, a trio that already has a cover of Martina McBride's "When God-Fearin' Women Get the Blues" and other stuff up on their MySpace page.

The page also says the trio is working on a CD. We wish them the best of luck with it!

American Idol vs. So You Think You Can Dance

They're two of the most popular reality shows on TV. With that in mind, The New York Daily News took it upon itself to compared the judges on American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance.

To wit:

THE TWITS: Paula Abdul vs. Mary Murphy

Similarities: The goofy brunettes both devote a lot of their critiques to the contestants' appearance. Murphy's signature comment is to label a dancer sexy enough to ride on her "hot tamale train," which is about as nonsensical and confusing as most of what Abdul says. They're both loopy, loud and the least likely to be taken seriously.

Differences: While Abdul hardly ever has a bad thing to say, Murphy doesn't hold back when she thinks a contestant stinks. However, Murphy is a ballroom-dancing champion, so she actually knows what she's talking about. Abdul sang "Opposites Attract" next to a cartoon of MC Skat Kat.

David Archuleta Speaks on Father, American Idol Fans

During a recent conference call with reporters, American Idol runner-up David Archuleta spoke on the rumors circulating regarding his reportedly controlling father.

"I heard one thing where [my dad, Jeff] refused to give me water or something like that and that's the weirdest thing," Archuleta said. "I mean, I am 17 and you know, if I want water, I am pretty sure I would just go get it anyway."

The kid makes a good point.

David Archuleta

Almost as weird as the talk about his father? The millions of fans David can now count on his side. It will take some getting used to, he said

"It's such a weird thought to think. I do think of it more as people who have really appreciated what I have done and with all the letters that I have been sent. I've tried to read as many as I could... The fact that people were able to feel what I was trying to give off as I sing is one of the coolest and best feelings ever."

David Cook: The Winning Interview

Soon after being crowned American Idol champion, David Cook was interviewed by People Magazine. Here are highlights from the conversation:

What do you expect from the year ahead?
I actually walked into this with no expectations and I'm walking out of it with no expectations. This show is a springboard, but it's still a crapshoot. I could easily walk out of this arena and be just a regular Joe tomorrow. I hope that's not the case. It's kind of up to everybody else.

Number-One

What went through you mind when you heard that you had won?
That my music teacher Mrs. Gentry made me sing in a Christmas pageant in second grade, and now I'm here. The ride has been pretty, pretty nuts. You know you couldn't write this … or maybe you can, I don't know maybe you guys can. But I can't.
