Reality TV Recaps: So You Think You Can Dance, Last Comic Standing

A pair of season premieres aired last night. Two solid, summer reality TV shows kicked off their summer seasons, so let's summarize them now...

So You Think You Can Dance: We got things started in sunny Los Angeles as the dancer-wannabes faced judges, Nigel, Mary and Mia Michaels to get the dance party started. Cat explained that each dancer gets a minute on stage to impress the judges and that one of three things will happen... -- Reality TV Magazine

Last Comic Standing:  The Big Apple is our starting point this season, and straight away we meet new co-host/semi-scripted interstitial performer Fearne Cotton. She's British and blonde and perky. If you like that sort of thing... -- Zap2It

David Cook: The Winning Interview

Soon after being crowned American Idol champion, David Cook was interviewed by People Magazine. Here are highlights from the conversation:

What do you expect from the year ahead?
I actually walked into this with no expectations and I'm walking out of it with no expectations. This show is a springboard, but it's still a crapshoot. I could easily walk out of this arena and be just a regular Joe tomorrow. I hope that's not the case. It's kind of up to everybody else.

Number-One

What went through you mind when you heard that you had won?
That my music teacher Mrs. Gentry made me sing in a Christmas pageant in second grade, and now I'm here. The ride has been pretty, pretty nuts. You know you couldn't write this … or maybe you can, I don't know maybe you guys can. But I can't.

Cat Deeley Thinks She Can Host

With the fourth season of So You Think You Can Dance set to premiere tonight, here are highlights from a chat host Cat Deely recently had with TV Guide:

How the show has evolved:

It's not necessarily trends of dance I've noticed, but definitely the dancers are becoming more aware that this isn't just a dance competition. It's to find America's favorite dancer, so it's not necessarily about who's the best technical dancer or who has the most training. It's actually about the person that America connects with the most and it doesn't matter how brilliant your dancing is.

New styles of dance that might be featured:
It is everything that you know and love, but back bigger and better. Because the bar has kind of been raised, now we want triple back somersaults with extras and a run up the wall because we just get blasé about it. There will definitely be another amazing Mia Michaels routine that's going to give you chills. Wade Robson is also going to do something very special for us. Obviously, what we want to do is keep it fresh, too. We aim to surprise and delight, but all of the normal styles will be there too.

The potential cross-over of American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance:
Because of the success of it wouldn't surprise me if something else did happen. I don't know exactly in what form it will be or how it will happen, but there is obviously a synergy between both shows because of the production teams that work on them both. It was such a huge success it wouldn't surprise me if there was.

What Happens When Greg Halstead Stop Being Polite...

... and starts being real.

Greg Halstead is more than just a house member of The Real World: Hollywood. He was the winner of an online contest during which fans voted him in as the final cast mate of the season.

He recently spoke with BuddyTV about the experience so far:

Is there something about you that you think separates yourself from other African-American men that have been on the show before?

I do.  The stereotypical African-American male is very confrontational, and most people feel that they're very quick to physical action, in terms of fighting and stuff like that. I wanted to present something opposite of that.

Greg Halstead

You really are laid back, you don't get into a lot of fights, yet somehow your roommates seem to get really mad at you. What is that about? Why aren't you gelling with them so far?
I'll say what someone from MTV said to me - someone obviously older and wiser than myself - it's kind of that sickness where people start to prod you to get angry and to act out of character. When they don't get what they want, they continue to do such, and continue to do more and more things just to, again, get under your skin, and trying to make you feel miserable.

A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila Video: Bo vs. Chad

Thing 2: Optimistic About Future with Flavor Flav

After winning the third season of Flavor of Love, Thing 2 said there would not be a fourth edition of the show; i.e. her and Flavor Flav would live happily ever after.

So far, so pretty good.

"I've seen Flav a couple of times since the show. He took me out to Benihana not long after the finale wrapped," Thing 2, whose real name is Tresha, recently said.

"But he's been off in Canada doing his show, and I've had other things going on. We haven't seen each other in a few months but it's still exciting. I'm excited to see what's going to happen."

Does she still believe in their future as a couple?

"I see us having a really great relationship. A good, good friendship, partnership. We'll be there for each other. We'll be life-long partners, friends, whatever you want to call it…I think it's going to work out for the best," she said.
